Inactivated 21 January 1978 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and relieved from assignment to the 101st Airborne Division.

Activated 15 April 1983 in Germany, reorganized from the units of the 2nd Battalion, 5th Artillery. The unit was an 8-inch M110A2 Self Propelled Howitzer unit and assigned to the 41st Field Artillery Brigade. The unit was stationed at the Babenhausen Kaserne.

 Inactivated 15 October 1991 in Germany.
