Four battalions of the 77th Artillery Regiment were assigned to or in direct support of multiple Divisions during the Vietnam War. The three (3) 105mm howitzer batteries of the 1st Battalion rotated direct support among the 3 Brigades (9 Cavalry Battalions) of the 1st Cavalry Division. The 2nd Battalion's 105mm howitzers supported the 4th and 25th Infantry Divisions during their tour of duty in Vietnam. The 3rd Battalion served in the U.S. Army Reserve's 60th Infantry Division in California until inactivated in 1965. The 4th Battalion, an Aerial Rocket Artillery unit, was assigned to direct support of the 101st Airborne Division. The 5th Battalion was a SGT Missle unit on the Babenhausen Kaserne in Germany. It was inactivated in 1973 and the Kaserne was closed in June 2007. Finally, the 6th Battalion provided 155mm howitzer and Aerial Rocket Artillery support to the 9th and 25th Infantry Divisions in Vietnam
